On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, with support from the Department of Economic Development and the Arts, the Tasmanian Electronic Commerce Centre Pty Ltd (TECC). The TECC is delivering the Wireless Tasmania, Hobart Waterfront virtual precinct ( represented by this website) project as an activity capable of trialling and demonstrating the smart and connected capabilities achieved through providing current available technology merging into 4G digital infrastructure.
The TECC has been at the forefront of investigating potential new technology applications and infrastructure deployments in the Tasmanian commercial and community context for the last decade.
The TECC has a key role to:
- raise awareness of e-commerce, and provide support and advisory services for businesses, business groups and industry associations
- support IT and communication infrastructure and technology developments that provide benefits to Tasmanian businesses
- assist the development and promotion of viable digital services within Tasmania
- facilitate and support research into issues relevant to the uptake and use of smart business technology and digital infrastructure.
- facilitate new opportunities for involvement in Tasmania for new information and knowledge based businesses.
The project involved the completion of a scoping study and the establishment of a wireless network trial in the Hobart Waterfront precinct. One of the aims of the project is to the creation of a virtual representation of the waterfront area capable of showcasing local industry, tourist attractions, events and special items of interest.
As the project moves towards 4G connectivity the Hobart Waterfront Wireless network is envisioned to become a test bed for creative digital applications and services to enable visitors and locals the opportunity to see the potential of high speed constant mobile broadband.
