On the Waterfront

Head along to Franklin Wharf to see what the various cruise ship operators have on offer. There are numerous trips in and around the harbour. Explore Bruny Island, head off down the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to Peppermint Bay. Jump on a water taxi or catch a ferry to the Eastern Shore. See Hobart and its surrounds from the water - it makes unforgetable viewing!!  Run away to sea - experience tall ship sailing on the habour and beyond! For those looking to a gentler adventure, an opportunity to crew a square rigged sailing vessel awaits!

The Maritime Muesum of Tasmania is well worth a visit! Situated just up from the Waterfront, corner of Davey and Argyle Streets in the historic Carnegie Building,  the Maritime Museum of Tasmania explores, preserves and interprets Tasmania's rich maritime past.

Just across the road is the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, founded in 1843, its one of the few combined art galleries, museums and herbariums in the world. It contains a treasure-trove of galleries and exhibitions, a great cafe and extensive bookshop. What is more entry is free! The Museum is about to undergo a massive $200m redevelopment in coming years so keep an eye out for changes regards entrances and what is open and closed by visiting the TMAG website.

Salamanca is the home of Hobart's night life. With pubs, cafes and clubs open till late, Salamanca is always alive. Knopwoods Hotel, a Hobart institution is famous for its Friday afternoon session drinks. A great place to meet and mix with the locals. Alternatively, the recently opened James Squire Beer Bar in the heart of Salamanca Square is inviting - slip along and learn about the legend that is James Squire!! Or try Irish Murphy's, a lively Irish Pub with live music and a historical pedigree as a waterering hole in Hobart Town that is second to none!
